Microsoft Windows 8, the next generation of the popular Windows operating system, launched a little more than a month ago. This new version brings a long list of changes to the Windows platform; from the user interface, to foundational elements of the framework itself. With over 40 million licenses sold in its first month, theres a good chance that either you, or someone you know is considering an upgrade.

Before upgrading, we encourage you to check whether the Autodesk products you rely upon are indeed compatible with Windows 8. At the time of publication, the list of compatible applications is limited to:

  • Autodesk 3ds Max 2013
  • Autodesk 3ds Max Design 2013
  • Autodesk Maya
  • Autodesk MotionBuilder 2013
  • Autodesk Mudbox 2013
  • Autodesk Softimage 2013
  • Autodesk SketchBook Designer 2013

Although Windows 8 support only extends to this comparatively short list of products today, broader product support is suggested in a recent Autodesk Knowledge Base entry. Given today’s limited product support, CADD Microsystems does not yet recommend upgrading to Microsoft Windows 8 in a production environment at this time. Our team is following updates from Autodesk regarding Windows 8 compatibility, and we’ll be sharing those updates here and on our Twitter, Facebook, and Linkedin feeds.
