The very first Revit DC user group meeting for 2019 welcomed dozens of users across the DC metro area for three excellent presentations Tuesday evening. Additionally, the live broadcast to YouTube brought the meeting to Revit users across the country. Regardless of how users participated, attendees benefited from the exchange of ideas, methods, and practices in a relaxed environment.

The three presentations discussed a myriad of topics including the use of Dynamo to visualize clashes in Revit, 3D coordination for construction, and lessons learned leveraging augmented reality for design coordination. A recording of each of these presentations is available below.

Visualizing your Clash’s in Revit using Dynamo

Presented by Andy Schrader, WSP

During this session, attendees learned how Dynamo is used at WSP to automate the visualization of clashes inside Revit. Practical examples offered solutions to many of the obstacles often encountered when leveraging Revit to check models for clashes.

In-House GPR, 3D Coordination and Reality Capture

Presented by Julien Bartolo & Chris Twilley, Davis Construction

In this session, attendees learned how Davis Construction used reality capture technologies in combination with Revit. With this combination, models were leveraged for in-house GPR, through the use of APL and laser scanning. The Davis Construction team shared many of the lessons learned along the way and how the new process impacted deliverables shared with the owner and design teams.

An Augmented Site Visit – Lessons Learned for Practical AR

Presented by David Fersh, SmithGroup

This presentation focused on the innovative ways SmithGroup uses technologies such as Augmented Reality and Microsoft Hololens on projects. David shared a case study in how vital model data was transferred to the site for field verification during construction administration and lessons learned as augmented reality technology continues to develop.

If you’ve never joined us, Revit DC meets every other month on the top floor of the Key Bridge Marriott in Arlington, VA. There is no charge to attend, but registration is necessary so our team can order enough food for each meeting. All Revit users, even those who do not work with CADD Microsystems, are welcome to attend.

While we would love for you to join us in person, we do now broadcast Revit DC meetings live online. Be sure to stay tuned for the agenda and registration details for the April 2019 Revit DC meeting.

Attend the next Revit DC

Hear from Revit users as they share their ideas, methods, and best practices in order to further the Building Information Modeling (BIM) benefits for the local design community.
