AutoCAD 2026 NEW FEATURES

April 15th, 2025

AutoCAD has been the leading computer-aided design software for over three decades, and its latest version, 2026, offers exciting new features and enhancements. If you’re wondering whether upgrading to AutoCAD 2026 is worthwhile, here are the top reasons CADD Microsystems believes you should consider it.

AutoCAD Foundations For those new to AutoCAD or looking to enhance their skills, a new learning series titled " AutoCAD Foundations " will provide everything necessary for independent work in AutoCAD. This series is ideal for beginners or anyone wanting to refresh their AutoCAD knowledge. " AutoCAD Foundations " begins with a tour of the AutoCAD user interface and then demonstrates how to create and save drawing files. Additional topics cover basic drawing and modification commands and guidance on annotating, hatching, and dimensioning various types of drawings. The series also explains how to streamline repetitive tasks using blocks. Finally, it concludes by teaching how to create, organize, and plot layouts to share design ideas with others. Each lesson includes hands-on exercises to complete directly in AutoCAD. This feature is currently available in English only. A2026 AUTOCAD FOUNDATIONS.png

Connected Support Files Connected support files enable AutoCAD to recognize dependencies such as fonts, plot styles, templates, and other essential materials based on the configuration set for an Autodesk Docs project. These files link to the relevant Autodesk Docs project. AutoCAD identifies the necessary support files for drawings within an Autodesk Docs project without requiring individual configuration for each installation. During the setup for support files in an Autodesk Docs project, AutoCAD creates a folder named .autodesk.support and searches this folder (along with its subfolders) as the primary source within the Autodesk Docs project to locate the required support files. Including additional support file locations across multiple projects can streamline this process, while custom locations and settings can be specified as needed. AutoCAD refers to the last indicated drawing template location in the user's project settings when starting a new drawing. Furthermore, the search for support files has been enhanced across all specified search paths within a project. Opening drawings from the same Autodesk Docs project automatically finds and includes the necessary support files without additional setup. A2026 CONNECTED SUPPORT FILES.png

Enhancement to Activity Insights Autodesk introduces the ‘What’s Changed Insight. ' When you click on a saved activity tile in the Activity Insights palette, you will now see the What's Changed Insight in the Activity Properties panel. This insight provides a high-level summary of changes made during each editing session, helping you understand what has occurred since you last worked on the drawing and allowing you to continue from where you left off. The What's Changed Insight is linked to the drawing, not to individual users, meaning that all AutoCAD collaborators working on the drawing can create and view the same insights. Typically, each What's Changed Insight includes: • A list of changes for specific objects • A workflow breakdown based on command execution • Elapsed edit time • File size changes Each insight includes a thumbs-up or thumbs-down feedback option, allowing you to rate its helpfulness. Additionally, you can provide more specific feedback through the Help us improve link in the What's Changed header. We hope this new addition to Activity Insights enhances your collaboration and streamlines your workflow. A2026 ACTIVITY INSIGHTS.png

Autodesk Docs and Markup Assist Autodesk continues to enhance the ability for users to import Markups from Autodesk Docs to AutoCAD. When markups are imported into AutoCAD, Markup Assist can recognize text, strikethroughs, and boundary markups. Additionally, Markup Assist can detect markups that were added to a PDF before it was uploaded to Autodesk Docs (in prior versions, only markups created in Autodesk Docs were detected by Markup Assist). Smart Block Enhancement Smart Blocks now identifies text variations and identical blocks to streamline repetitive tasks in AutoCAD. BSEARCH, formerly known as BCONVERT, locates all instances of the same geometry within a drawing for efficient block conversion. With this release, Search and Convert now detects text variations, enabling conversion into block attributes. This new capability helps categorize repetitive yet variable text types, such as room numbers or names. Users will see a preview thumbnail when they choose to convert matching instances to a block, making it easier to view the selected object and text variation. In addition to converting matching instances to a block, users can define attribute tags for text variations by clicking' Define attribute tags. ' Search and Convert can now be quickly launched from the ribbon. Once BSEARCH is initiated, the new Search Review mode highlights all matching instances, and from the Search review toolbar, users can: • View the total number of matching instances • Navigate to the previous or next instance in the drawing • Adjust filters to include existing blocks and/or text variations • Convert to block A2026 SMART BLOCKS.png

Centerline and Centermark Layer Option Autodesk introduces the CENTERLAYER system variable for AutoCAD 2026. As in previous releases, text, dimensions, and leaders are associated with layer-related system variables, allowing users to predefine which layer these annotations will be placed on. The Centerlines panel also includes a Center Layer Override dropdown, enabling users to choose from a list of layers available in the current drawing or assign the Centerlines and Center-marks to the current layer. As a result, placing annotations on the fly becomes quicker and easier with each new release of AutoCAD! A2026 CENTERLAYER.png

AutoCAD 2026 comes packed with exciting new features and enhancements designed to help you work more efficiently, collaborate seamlessly, and create stunning designs faster than ever before! If you're looking to stay at the forefront of computer-aided design, consider upgrading to AutoCAD 2026 today and outshine the competition!
