Confirm Nobody Is Using Your License Server

Jason KunkelSeptember 10th, 2020

As we look forward to the transition to Named Users, there are some definite steps to take when it's your turn that can make the difference between a smooth transition, and a not so smooth one.

One of your final steps is going to be to demote your FlexLM network license server. But before you do that, you want to verify that you don't have any strays hanging onto those licenses. The last thing you want to do is kick them out of their favorite design software, because I guarantee you will hear about it.

It's a very easy process to make sure you are in the clear. The first step, of course, is to get on your server, and open the LMTools application with our favorite "Is that a smiling Cyclops?" icon.

In the LMTools software...

  1. Go to the Server Status tab
  2. Click Perform Status Enquiry (wait a couple of seconds)
  3. Review the output. You will want to scroll down to Feature usage info. These are all the licenses on your server. It is simply a matter of looking at each item and making sure that all say "Total of 0 licenses in use." If any licenses are in use, that information will be displayed in the same window. Track the user down and make sure they have updated their workstation's licensing to use the new name user setup.
