Classification Manager for Revit Update

Jason KunkelApril 5th, 2016

This week, the UK BIM Level 2 Mandate kicked in. Any public sector project in the UK requires following the Level 2 BIM standards. To help facilitate the changes, and to encourage adoption on all projects, not just public sector, users can head on over and track down the NBS Toolkit which is a collection of resources that can help make working on a BIM project easier, and dare I say, more fun?

Autodesk Classification Manager for Revit

Part of the NBS Toolkit is an updated version of the Uniclass classification system, called Uniclass 2015. Those of you who have used the Autodesk Classification Manager for Revit might recognize that as the default UK database that ships with the tool. As Uniclass is still being updated, it’s important that the database needs to be updated too.

Luckily, the Classification Manager has gotten an update this week, specifically updating the UK default database to match the latest versions of the Uniclass 2015 tables available (the April 2016 tables). You just need to head over to biminteroperabilitytools.com to download the latest version. Be sure to uninstall the prior versions before installing the new one. Once you kick off the add-in inside Revit, if you select the UK database, you will be using the updated database.

Keep in mind that any classifications you have already assigned to elements will not be updated, but you can overwrite those if any of those classifications have been updated. Otherwise, any new classifications you assigned will match the currently installed database.
