Work from Anywhere with Bluebeam Revu and Bluebeam Studio

CADD MicrosystemsSeptember 21st, 2020

Over the last few months, the AEC landscape has changed. Along with how we live our daily lives, we continue to push what is possible with today's technologies. This may require us to change how we process our data, change how we collaborate and work with others, and even change the kinds of technology we use and how we use it. Remote work has continued to be a focus point these last few months.

When it comes to collaboration and coordination, Bluebeam® Revu® set's itself apart from the PDF applications in many ways. Bluebeam Revu provides key features within its application which enable users to work in a remote workspace while maintaining a standardized and easily collaborative digital environment. These features can be used in an offline and online setting. Some of these features are:

  • The Tool Chest where users can standardize markup tools, comments, symbols, and other items that enable quick and ease-of-use digital markups.
  • The Markups List which users can view all markups done on a PDF, who added that markup and when, any comments and replies made to that markup, as well as other criteria you'd like to track.
  • Profiles provide an easy way to set up settings, set standards, UI layouts, and other aspects of the application which can be standardized for an organization.
These are just a few features that Bluebeam Revu provides to every single user. How these features are used is entirely up to the user as the tools are flexible. If you'd like to know more about these features, take a look at our Blog Posts about these tools!

These features and much more can be used in both offline and online settings. As mentioned earlier, our landscape and how to do our work is changing vastly. As such, the ability to digitally work with our drawings, plans, and other PDF documents has changed. Today, a lot of us must work remotely which requires us to sign-in to a server, use a VPN service, or other remote solutions. Bluebeam Revu has a solution where you can share, communicate, markup, and collaborate in a single-source cloud-based environment. This is Bluebeam Studio® and the best thing is that it is completely free to everyone who has a full license of Bluebeam Revu.

Bluebeam Studio is in two parts: Studio Projects and Studio Sessions. These two parts can work together or independently of each other depending on how you want to use the application and work with your documents. First, Bluebeam Studio Projects can be thought of as a single-source environment for all your project documents. This can include PDFs, site & safety issue pictures, Microsoft Word documents and specs, PowerPoint presentations, videos, and even CAD files and Revit non-workshared files. It's the central location to connect users to their work and it only requires an internet connection. Once established, a user can also work with their documents offline. This service also features key permission options, check-in and out features to control versions of documents, and user options and controls.

Second, Bluebeam Studio Sessions can work in unison with Studio Projects or without. Sessions allow a user to share a single version of a PDF document, or multiple, with users anytime and anywhere. When a user wants to sit down and review a set of PDF documents, that user can set up a Studio Session where they can invite other Bluebeam Revu users and other collaborators without Bluebeam Revu to join their review. This can be done in real-time where once a user creates a markup or comment, another user can see it appear on their screen. There is offline capability, permission options, and other controls that provide an administrative control over the Session itself.

The features listed above, Tool Chest, Markups List, and Profiles, along with other great features, can already be found in the base license and application of Bluebeam Revu. These tools can be shared, expanded, and standardized to other users in today's remote-focused world with the use of Bluebeam Studio.
