Twelve Days of CADD Care (Day Seven): CADD Care tip

Eden DavisDecember 9th, 2021

Season's greetings, CADD customers!

On the seventh day of CADD Care, the CADD Team gave to me… a straightforward guide on troubleshooting the Desktop Connector.

Below you will find steps for updating and uninstalling the Desktop Connector and the scenarios for when you should do so.

Update the Desktop Connector

This can be useful in scenarios where:
  • Models are missing from ACC/BIM 360 folders in Revit
  • Cloud Models are unable to be open in Revit
  • Error occurs when linking cloud models
How to do it:
  1. Locate the Autodesk Desktop Connector icon in your system task tray:
  2. Right-click the icon.
  3. Select the Update Available option, if present.

Perform a clean uninstall of the Desktop Connector

This can be useful in scenarios where: How to do it:
  1. Uninstall the application through the Control Panel
  2. Delete the following folders (replacing User/USERNAME with your information):
    1. C:\Users\<USERNAME>\AppData\Local\Autodesk\Desktop Connector
    2. C:\Users\<USERNAME>\AppData\Local\Autodesk\Web Services\DesktopConnector
  1. Delete the following registry keys (be advised that it is recommended to first export out or 'save' a copy of the current registry before deleting or modifying any keys):
    1. HKEY_CURRENT_USER>SOFTWARE>Autodesk>Autodesk Desktop Connector
    2. HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE>SOFTWARE>Autodesk>Desktop Connector
That's it, folks.

Happy Holidays!
